Autumn Term

‘Wow, what a busy first half term it has been! Aquamarine Class have settled really well into Year One and are becoming confident with all their new responsibilities. We have dived into our new Power of Reading books, visited the wilderness and have got stuck into our new Arts Afternoons.

In English we have read ‘Snail and the Whale’ and ‘One Day on Our Blue Planet-The Savannah’. We have created missing posters, postcards from Africa and have met Naomi Noun, Adam Adjective and Veronica Verb who have helped us develop our writing skills.

We have enjoyed linking our Power of Reading books to our afternoon topics. In Science we have learned about animal classification, animal diets and our 5 senses. In Art we have created some effective lion pictures using leaves we collected from the wilderness and we have been using atlases and Google Earth to explore the Savannah, thinking about all the different animals we may see there.

In maths we have been working hard on place value, learning about adding 1 more, 1 less and 10 more and 10 less and we have applied this to activities in our books.

Well done Aquamarine Class for working so hard this first half term. I have been really impressed with how polite you are as a class and how kind and caring you are toward each other. Next term we are going to working on stopping ad listening as soon as our class bells are rung.

Have a happy and safe half term and I look forward to seeing you all again.

Autumn 2
We have finished our first full term in Year 1 and what an amazing term it has been! Aquamarine Class have been working incredibly hard in all curriculum areas. In English we were transported to different countries and learned about different cultures. We created postcards and missing posters to further develop our writing skills, we discovered what similes are and we even learned a bit of French!

In Maths we have been learning about money including value of coins, ordering coins and adding coins together.

This half term we have continued with our amazing Arts Afternoons, had a go at creating music with junk percussion and have enjoyed fantastic events such as our Winter Wonderland I Spy, movie night and of course the festive Christmas Fair.

Aquamarine class have thoroughly enjoyed our Show and Tell afternoons this half term and I am so impressed with the class’ confidence and enthusiasm for showing the class what they enjoy outside of school.

Aquamarine class have worked so hard in learning their lines, actions, songs and poems for our Year 1 Christmas Assembly as well as creating some fabulous artwork and Christmas tree decorations for you to enjoy at home over the festive season. I am extremely proud of Aquamarine class and they have won all 15 of our Aquamarine gems so will be getting a treat in January as a reward!

Next term we will be working of developing a love for reading and practising all the phonics sounds we have learned so far.

Have a wonderful festive holiday and I am looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
